Kmart extends its community program to offer greater support to Northern Territory families
Helping kids to achieve their full potential is what inspired Kmart to launch a new joint venture with Variety, the children’s charity. Through donations made at coin collection boxes at local Kmart store registers, customers will be helping provide the gift of education and achievement for children with special needs through Variety, the children’s charity’s Future Children’s program.
Kmart’s customers will be able to make a donation to the program until the end of April.
“We are very pleased to offer the opportunity for our customers to support Aussie children through important charities like Variety,” said Kmart Operations Manager for the Northern Territory, Barry Norris. “It’s always such a great feeling to know the positive impact your loose change has when going somewhere needed,” he added.
“Kmart customers are well known for their generosity. During last year’s Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, Australians kindly donated more than $288,000 and over 407,000 gifts to assist families doing it tough.”
Children helped by Variety, the children’s charity are the first to benefit from Kmart’s new coin collection initiative. Through the year, other beneficiaries will include the Cancer Council, TLC for Kids and various Women’s Hospitals.
Consistent with Kmart’s focus on supporting the local community, funds raised through the coin collection program will provide a direct benefit to special needs children living in the region.
“Kmart has a long history of great community support,” said Karen Dee, Variety’s Northern Territory CEO. “Kmart customers will be rewarded by the knowledge that their generosity is assisting Variety to provide tangible and practical help to local children.”
The coin collection initiative is an extension of Kmart’s existing community program, which supports community groups with fundraising activities and other projects so that they can continue their vital work. Last financial year, Kmart assisted thousands of community groups and the community raised contributions supported by Kmart totaled more than $11 million.
