Liz Izet: Treasurer
Nearly
born! But totally bred in the NT! My mother was a nurse in Tennant
Creek at the time of my conception and for some reason flitted off to
Sydney to have me and was back in 4 days! We lived at Avon Downs
where my Dad was the first cop there. The Barkley was my playground –
definitely a ‘geographically’ disadvantaged kid along with my
sister. We moved to Darwin after 7 years in the bush and here we
stayed and I got 2 brothers!
In
1995 I got a call from my friend Valda – “Have I got a deal for
you!” Along with Donna Rousham they both plied me with all the
fantastic work Variety was doing (Donna’s daughter Tahnee was a
recipient) and “The Magnificent Woomen” were born! (after we
cajoled Mzz Vicki in as well!!) What can I say?? 14 years and still I
am totally amazed at the raising of funds our Variety NT does for our
very special kids. Bashing, splashing, Australia Daying, Xmas
partying, Goanna Parking – anyway we can fundraise has been
wonderful to be a part of. To see the looks on those beautiful
childrens’ faces is something indescribable – you’ve just got
to be there. And thanks to Grumpy Jim each time he shows me film on
what he’s created he knows every time I’ll cry with pride!
In
this present economic climate ‘they’ say it’s going to be harder for charities – well I for one am not going with that –
I’ve seen what we’ve achieved and we’ll only pull together
stronger to ensure our special kids are looked after. It’s the
Variety way and I am very proud and blessed to be a part of this
truly unique and magnificent family.
